I am a Duterte Supporter but him using the name of Hitler in comparison to his wanting to kill 3M drug criminals immediately caused a lot of disruptions to Europeans especially. This brought a lot of irky and angry feelings.
Unfortunately, they only heard the name and stopped there. They did not hear (or read) the rest of his statement.
We cannot blame them. Hitler killed a lot (millions) of their people. This is one of the darkest moments in their history.
I had to explain this before to my husband when I used Hitler as a joke. I forgot I wasn’t talking to an Asian. He told me not to joke about this again especially outside our house. One EU lesson learned.
I had to explain Duterte to him and my inlaws. I told them that they also cannot blame us Fililipinos as the pull of bad emotions when “he who must not be named” is mentioned is not the same with the Dutch people. We were just geographically so far away and were battling our own wars.
I agree that as President of the Philippines, he has to filter one word or two when talking to the public.
As for President Duterte, his public is the world. All eyes are watching. 🤗
Anyway, he already apologized today.
“”I would like to make it now, here and now, that there was never an intention on my part to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered,” he said in a speech at a festival carried live on television.
He added: “I apologize profoundly and deeply to the Jewish community … it was never my intention, but the problem was I was criticized, using Hitler comparing to me.”” (Souce: NBC News)
